If you suffer with thinning, limp, and lifeless hair, you may be at your wits’ end, but don’t worry, it is possible to give your hair the body it currently lacks.

There are two ways of approaching the problem of limp thinning hair, and they go hand in hand. The first step is to get a haircut that is ideally suited to masking the problems of thin hair. The second is to enhance the hair you have with good quality hair products that ‘pump up’ your hair, giving it extra body.

Some people have always had thin hair, while others may develop the problem with age. Although thinning and balding is more usually associated with men, surprisingly it affects a great many older women as well. If thinning is something that has crept up on you as have got older, there is no use burying your head in the sand and refusing to adapt. At some point you may have to bite the bullet and accept that the haircut you had at age 20 or 30 is no longer tenable at age 50 or more.

If you have a regular hair stylist, now is the time for some tough talking. A hairdresser’s job is to keep the client happy, so few stylists will raise the topic of hair loss unless the client mentions it first. But once you broach the subject you will find that your hairdresser will be happy to discuss the matter and give you solid professional advice on the best cuts.

If you have prided yourself on your long tresses, sadly you may have to accept that you will have to go a bit shorter. This is because a shorter cut will immediately give thinning hair a bit more bounce and body than long straggly locks. Careful use of layering techniques will not only give you a nice trendy look but is another weapon in your armoury from the point of view of disguising any thinning up top.

Once the haircut is taken care of, we come to the second stage: of conditioning and enhancement products. Again you should speak to your hair stylist, who will be able to recommend the right products for your hair type. But rest assured that by a combination of the right shampoo, conditioner and styling products, your hair will keep that fluffy, fresh from the salon look!
